An Erina dentist’s guide to fillings

For many people, the thought of having to go to the dentist is an activity that causes a lot of stress and anxiety.

It’s one of the most common fears that we develop as children, and it can often continue all the way into adulthood!

The problem with this is that by avoiding regular appointments, you can run the risk of turning a small fixable issue into a much bigger problem.

Here at New Leaf Dentists we have found that the more patients are actually educated about our practices and services, the less nervous they tend to be. With that in mind, here is a dentist in Erina’s guide to fillings.

  • The first thing your dentist will do is perform a full examination of your top and bottom teeth. If they see any areas where decay has caused a cavity to appear between teeth or gums, then a filling will be the form of treatment that is required.
  • You won’t feel a thing during the filling process, because the first step of the procedure is to administer a small injection of local anaesthetic that numbs the area that the dentist is going to be working on. You will feel some sensations, but none of them will be painful after the quick pinch of the jab itself.
  • Once numb, the dentist will work to drill away the parts of the tooth that are damaged by decay. The aim is to be left with all of the tooth that is still healthy, and a hole that then needs to be filled
  • The filling is made from a special, strong mixture that can be easily moulded to fit the shape and size of your drilled hole. This solution dries very quickly and by the time you leave the dentist, all you need to do is not eat for a couple of hours before everything is back to normal!

So, hopefully that information has helped to pull back the curtain a little bit for you in terms of the unexpected. The next time you need to see a dentist in Erina, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us.

A member of the friendly and understanding team will be more than happy to answer any questions that you might have in order to make you as comfortable and relaxed as possible.

We look forward to meeting you!
