Meet the New Leaf Dentists Family
Pamela Vergara B COMM, CPA - General Manager
Pamela is the General Manager of The Coast Dentists Pty Ltd. She has a Bachelor of Commerce degree (Accounting and Law) and is a member of CPA Australia. She spent the previous 15 years of her career in the corporate finance and tax world, working across various industries ranging from travel, retail, telecommunications, energy, banking and engineering. She also owns and operates an online store specializing in women's leather handbags to help feed her creative needs and love for bags.
"If you can't beat them, join them!"
Surrounded by all things dental in the past 15 years as the wife of a dentist, there was no escaping that one day, she would join the dental industry. There was a time in her childhood when she thought of becoming an orthodontist, but found she is better suited to be on the other side of business. Nevertheless, she is passionate about helping people to achieve and maintain a healthy mouth and a beautiful smile. She welcomes this challenge to run a successful dental practice and endeavours to make this place the dental surgery to be!
Her other interests include singing, reading, doing creative activities, blogging, photography, interior design, getting to know people and of course, enjoying family time.
Dr. Benjamin Barrera BSc, BOH (DentSc), GradDipDent - Dentist
Dr. Benjamin Barrera received his dentistry qualifications from Griffith University, Queensland after completing a Bachelor of Science at Sydney University. Trained in all aspects of dentistry, he provides general and specialised treatment to New Leaf Dentists’ patients including dental implants, Invisalign clear braces, dento- facial injectables (wrinkle relaxers, dermal fillers, clenching/grinding), sleep dentistry and inhalation sedation.
Dr. Barrera’s appeal to his patients is well regarded. He places an emphasis on attention to detail and looking after patients in a caring, gentle, and comprehensive manner. One of his fundamental beliefs is in taking the time and clearly explaining what you as his patient will need and should expect.
To help him provide you with the best treatment possible, Dr Barrera regularly participates in study groups and continuing professional development courses, including the Australian Academy of Dento- Facial Aesthetics.
Dr. Ben has a Filipino-Spanish background, and we can reveal that his best kept beauty secret is his Asian genes. He loves learning different languages, travelling (if he can get the time off!), cooking and eating food from all cultures, and he places great importance on family and relationships. A man of many talents, he is also quite musical – he can play the piano, tenor and baritone saxophone and the guitar (You might want to watch out for him when we release the New Leaf Dentists soundtrack someday). As an adventurer, the craziest thing Ben has done so far is to allow his friends to take him skydiving in Byron Bay!
Quotable quote: “Falling is not failing; staying down is.”
Motivation: “Professionally, it is seeing what others have achieved with respect to professional excellence. It drives me to constantly assess myself clinically and keep improving to provide the best treatment and patient experience I can possibly provide. Personally, it is my partner, my family and my friends who motivate me to be the best that I can be.”
Days at New Leaf Dentists: Mondays and Tuesdays from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm.
Dr Tara Wallace-Hor B. Dent, U.Syd - Dentist
Dr. Tara Wallace-Hor graduated from the University of Sydney with a Bachelor of Dentistry.
She has worked in the public and private dental health sectors in Sydney, some regional areas of NSW, and the previous 18 months in New Zealand prior to joining the New Leaf Dentists team in March 2018. She provides general and cosmetic dental and dento-facial treatments including Invisalign, ClearCorrect clear braces and dento-facial injectables.
Dr Wallace-Hor has a very warm, friendly, relaxed and calm personality which easily endear her to patients from the moment they meet. The nervous giggles from anxious patients quickly turn into genuine laughter once the ice is broken and they are seated comfortably on the dental chair. It is clearly a gift that is uniquely Dr. Tara.
Tara is interested in preventative and restorative dentistry and has completed several continuing education courses in this area.
Born and raised in Sydney, Dr. Tara is half-British and half-Chinese and has two younger sisters, a husband, two adorable sons, and a beloved dog.
Tara is a self-confessed foodie who says that picking her favourite food will be like picking a favourite child. However, she does have a sweet spot for a really good cheese and cold cuts platter, and she describes her best meal as a ten-course Chinese banquet. She has a passion for travel and the outdoors, her highlights being her travels to South America, South East Asia and Europe. She has also donated her time doing overseas dental work through “Project Cambodia”. She balances this adventurous spirit with some relaxing activities like walking her dog, lying on the beach, and vegging in front of the TV watching “Stranger Things” with good food and wine.
Passions in life: Travel, food and family
Best achievement: Having Noah, her gorgeous son.
Days at New Leaf Dentists: Dr. Tara is currently on maternity leave (from Oct 2018), but her usual days are Fridays from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm, and Saturdays from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm

Clare White - Patient Relations
Clare has over 15 years of experience in the dental industry, ranging from all things clinical to all things admin. Clare completed her Certificate III in Dental Assisting in 2005, and her Certificate IV in Practice Administration in 2014. She is the first person you get to meet when you come into the surgery and will make sure that things go smoothly with your appointment, paperwork and succeeding visits. From time to time, you may also see her assisting the dentist at chairside. She has a thorough understanding of our procedures and will gladly help you with your inquiries and concerns.
As one of the original team members of New Leaf Dentists since October 2015, she has a natural rapport with Dr. Vergara, after having worked with him for a number of years back in Sydney, between 2001 – 2015!
Originally from Melbourne, then Sydney, she finally saw the light and now lives in Lake Macquarie with her family and some crabs who reside right by their waterfront. She is obsessed with purses and has over 50 in her collection. She describes herself as someone with #nofilter. As our resident foodie, she is in charge of the lunch and chocolate/cupcake run, and says that she is motivated by chocolate and food of any kind. She has met Matthew McConaughey, would like to have dinner with Jackie Chan, and considers Julia Roberts as her favourite superstar. To unwind, she enjoys good wine, time with friends and good music.
Passions in life: Family - Aleisha and Jack
Quotable quote: “Treat others how you wish to be treated.”
Amanda Wade - Senior Dental Nurse
Amanda is our senior dental nurse. She gained a Certificate III in Dental Assisting in 2008 and has been dental assisting for 8 years in both Sydney and the Central Coast. She has prior experience working in the specialist field of Endodontics. Prior to her dental studies, she also completed her Bachelor of Tourism Management from the University of Canberra in 2006.
Amanda is passionate and dedicated to ensuring patients are comfortable and composed before, during and after their treatment. She has a very calm and caring personality that immediately puts the patients at ease. She is also very organised and structured with her work, and is our “resident police” who ensures that everything is flowing and is being done correctly.
Amanda grew up in Canberra, ACT. She moved to the Central Coast region 10 years ago after wanting a sea-change from the hustle and bustle of the city, and lives here with her husband and numerous pets. She is our environmentalist, has a passion for nature, animals, all things turquoise and old school R&B. Amanda's highlights are buying her first house, starting her own business, and is motivated by her bucket list. She hopes to travel to Europe and complete a professional photography course too. Amanda counts skydiving and swimming with sharks among the craziest things she has ever done.
Best attributes: Honest, caring, artistic
Quotable quote: “Surround yourself with good, honest people.”
Bree Woulfe - Dental Nurse
Bree is our dental nurse. After years in the retail industry, she sought a career change and decided to study her Certificate III in Dental Assisting whilst doing her on-the-job training here at New Leaf Dentists. Bree successfully completed the course last year, and has now begun her Certificate IV in Dental Assisting - specialising in Radiography. She is a very keen and fast learner; her positive attitude and friendly personality has easily made her a great member of the team. Patients are always greeted warmly and are put at ease as soon as they meet Bree. Her passion to excel in a new skill set in a new industry clearly shows in her work.
Prior to Dental Assisting, Bree worked in customer service. She has also achieved a Certificate III in Floristry in 2015 and is a part-time florist for her own business, Bud Florals, styling arrangements for weddings and other special events.
Bree is a true blue Central Coast native, having grown up in Pretty Beach. She loves Italian and Thai food, never misses an episode of Game of Thrones, and aspires to travel as much as possible, listing NYC as one of the places she would like to visit. She'd like to have dinner with Jamie Oliver and his amazing food. Her best kept beauty secret is sleep and water. Because of her natural ability with plants, she is also in charge of keeping our surgery greenery alive!
Life would be meaningless without: “Family, friends and love.”
Best attributes: Easy going, creative, self-motivated
Laura Matthews - Junior Dental Nurse
Laura is the youngest member of our growing team. She completed her HSC in 2017 and did her work experience at New Leaf Dentists while she was deciding on what career path to take after Year 12. Her experience here led her to jump into a Certificate III in Dental Assisting at the beginning of the 2018, and started working with us in February 2018. Her on-the-job training goes hand in hand with the completion of her course at the end of this year.
While she was in high school, she worked at a supermarket and a cafe, which suited her friendly, bubbly personality and trained her with valuable customer service skills that will serve her well in this industry. Apart from this, she has also volunteered in the soup kitchen at the Coast Shelter and participated in various Salvation Army Red Shield Appeal events.
Laura is grew up on this side of the Central Coast. She is a true beach fan and enjoys her spare time outdoors, including camping. Her friends call her Loz, but for some reason, she ended up being lovingly called “Minion” by some of our team family! She cannot resist anything from Ben and Jerry’s ice cream and like most girls, has a soft spot for Channing Tatum.
Best advice she has been given: Create your own happiness.
In 5 years’ time: “I hope to be living my best life filled with adventure, laughter and love.”
