ROOT CANAL TREATMENTS CENTRAL COAST

What is Root Canal Treatment?

The objective of Root Canal Endodontic Treatment is to save a tooth that has been compromised by decay, disease or injury – and protect it from further damage.

At New Leaf Dentists, we recommend Root Canal Endodontic Treatment to save and preserve your natural tooth as far as is possible. This not only dispenses the need for artificial replacements but also helps you to avoid an extraction.

As professional healthcare givers, we believe that preserving your natural teeth, which tend to be stronger with better biting and chewing abilities, is often the healthier option. Contrary to popular misconception, it typically involves a relatively pain-free procedure. Rather than induce pain, it actually helps to relieve any stress and pain that you may be experiencing due to an inflamed tooth pulp.

Our dentists regularly perform root canal endodontic treatments. They will first identify whether you are a candidate for root canal therapy following a thorough check. If root canal treatment has been determined as your best option, our team is committed to providing you with a gentle treatment with little or no discomfort.

Our comprehensive experience in dental restorations – such as crown and bridgework – ensure that your root canal therapy is properly followed up with a robust and aesthetically pleasing permanent restoration, which is necessary to protect your teeth from further decay or fracture. In situations where the infection is recurrent or the treated tooth has failed, we also provide root canal re-treatment.

At New Leaf Dentists, we are committed to providing the highest standard of dental care in a clean, safe and comfortable environment.

Are Root Canal Treatments painful?

One of the biggest dental misconceptions is that root canal treatment perpetuates pain.

Root canals are generally recommended to patients who suffer from an irritated or inflamed nerve, which can unfortunately be a painful experience. The pain caused by the inflammation of the pulp is what patients commonly refer to as ‘root canal pain’, which really has more to do with the condition than the treatment.

In reality, a root canal treatment is no more painful than a regular filling procedure.

The treatment involves a rather intricate procedure to have the root canals cleaned and the infected pulp removed and may require several visits to the dentist.

Following each session, a temporary filling may be placed to protect the affected tooth until the procedure is completed and the root canal has been permanently sealed.

While it is not something that you look forward to, the procedure is not painful in the vast majority of situations.

At New Leaf Dentists, we understand that many root canal patients associate anxiety with dental visits. That’s why we adopt pain-free techniques (such as Laser Dentistry) to provide a calm and gentle procedure for all our root canal patients, including nervous or phobic patients.

Please inform us if you have sensitive teeth, as we will take special care and adopt measures to minimise your discomfort throughout the procedures.
